Maritime pallereoler til ESVAGT

24. november 2017

In English

One of the most exciting jobs that Hans Schourup has solved within the last year is the installment of pallet racking onboard the MS Faraday. The assignment was tendered by Esvagt in Esbjerg on behalf of the Siemens, the customer for whom they provide shipping services in the North Sea.

It is particularly for use on the MS Faraday, that Hans Schourup A/S has developed and designed a system with pallet rack, dimensioned to withstand the forces at play whilst at sea. Normally a pallet rack is not dimensioned for dynamic loading; however, this challenge, with movement in six degrees of freedom, was solved in collaboration with our Italian supplier Rosss and our own R&D department with our engineer Owen Dungworth.

There were three main points considered. The anchoring of the racking, utilizing a special technique, welding fasteners to the deck. Then the top of the racking was fastened to the hull with specially designed brackets. In collaboration with Rosss, we ensured that the uprights and beams could withstand the dynamic effects. Special knowledge pertaining to earthquake proofing of pallet racking which occurs in the more southerly latitudes, came into use. The last hurdle to overcome, was to ensure that the pallets remained in place during sailing. Here a system was developed to prevent the movement of the pallets, both backwards and forwards and sideways.

We have just completed an inspection, after 6 months of operation, where the racking is unaffected, and has therefore fulfilled the scope of the project, creating more pallet storage and freeing up the deck.

Hans Schourup now has the necessary knowledge, to be able to operate in this special market, and we can draft solutions for maritime pallet racking for use on shipping vessels.

ESVAGT, since 1981, has specialized in providing safety and support at sea.

ESVAGT focuses on quality and safety, providing a wide range of services to the; offshore oil and gas industry, such as ERRV emergency and rescue, monitoring and oil spill recovery, fire rescue, towing, anchor handling and general multi-field services.

Since 2010, ESVAGT has also serviced offshore wind farms with custom Service Operation vessels (SOV), that seat up to 40 technicians, and has spare parts and workshops onboard. Technicians, spare parts and tools are transferred to the wind turbines via a Walk-to work  gangway system or via Safe Transfer Boats.

ESVAGT is based in Esbjerg. The fleet consists of more than 40 modern offshore vessels, and the company has more than 900 employees both on and offshore. Hans Schourup has also provided other storage solutions at ESVAGT in Esbjerg.
